Sir Ian Mckellen Visits MCA

On Thursday 2nd March Manchester Communication Academy welcomed a very special guest, Sir Ian McKellen.  Sir Ian has starred in many well known films and plays, perhaps the most notable to MCA students being the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

As well as being a very successful actor, Sir Ian is the Co-Founder of Stonewall, a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender lobby group.  MCA are a Stonewall 'Champion of Champions' school, who actively work to educate MCA students about homophobia and to support LGBT students in the community.

Sir Ian visited MCA to speak to students about his work with the Stonewall to coincide with MCA's year 7 and 8 students working on topics such as homophobia and homophobic bullying in their Health lessons.  However during his visit Sir Ian, an internationally renowned Shakespearean actor, also treated a group of MCA students to a short Shakespearean speech.
